The Gospel of John

At the end of Gods grace, is more of His grace. This grace overflows endlessly. And the best news? Our disgrace is replaced with His grace.
Something that hit me afresh in reading the first chapter of John this morning is that it doesn't just tell us about grace, it tells the story of grace. From creation to the full revelation of Jesus, grace is the foundation of it all.
After my heart was opened to the gospel, I began actually reading the Bible. I didn't know where else to start, so I began at the beginning in Genesis. And even in the first few words of the Bible- there it is. Grace. Have you ever thought about this? It wasn't until recently that I was reminded, God wasn't bored, needy, or lonely, and yet- though aware of the brokenness of man that would come- we are told, "In the beginning, God created." Unmerited favor to a world and a people that He knew would fall.
And John is retelling us this story, starting with; "In the beginning" (vs. 1). But darkness had come into this world, and into the hearts of man since the start of creation.
So John tells us that God sent light to the world, His own Son, who is and was with God in the beginning and created all things.
Jesus became the perfect Savior, because He is the author and creator of all things.
Jesus is the giver of "grace upon grace"- which also translates "grace in a place of grace already given." Grace always existed, but Jesus fully embodied grace and became a better grace. For Jesus did what the law could not do, which was to solve humanity's problem (Rom. 8:3-4).
Looking around today, I see so many discouraged, anxious, weary, unbelieving hearts, my own falling into each of these categories at certain times. We need to tell the story of grace to our hearts over and over. Reminding ourselves that even the first breath we took after we woke up this morning, was because of grace.
Grace is the story of the gospel, but it is also our story.
God, give us a deeper awareness of grace in and through all things- big and little. Let it be said we are a person who lives because of, by, and for grace in all things.
