in a moment

he swept me off my feet

he got down on one knee & proposed to me

not with a ring

but with his life

a covenant he would make to me whether i said yes or not

a sacrificial ask that traded his life for mine

a radical engagement that chose me even though i ran away so many times

a love that was nailed to a tree

for me

before i ever said yes to his question

and as i’ve watched this crimson romance unfold before me

and as i’ve seen my wandering heart falter far too many times to ever count towards my innocence

i will spend the rest of my life saying yes to your proposal.
